Nap time accidents
I have a dcb who has just been potty trained for a couple of months (he just turned 4). Lately at nap time he has been waking up soaked!!! He wears a pull up still for naps but it soaks through that, through his clothes and onto my couch!!!! Gross!!! I have a towel under him but last week even that was soaked. Today I doubled up on the pull ups, made sure he peed before nap time, he didn't even drink much this am. He woke up...soaked again. right through both pull ups and his pants and the towel was wet as well (thank goodness the couch didn't get it. I may need to buy a new one if this keeps up). What to do? Thanks for the advice

First no napping on the couch - use a mat with a waterproof cover. Also consider getting a vinyl table cloth and putting it on the couch if a mat isn't an option. Serve lunch earlier so there is 30-45 minutes between drinking at lunch and bedtime then there is time for a full pee to be done in the toilet before nap. If he is soaking a pullup then switch to huggies goodnights for nap as they are intended to hold overnight pees.

Agree with playfelt but I would also discuss this with the parents. If he is peeing that much there might be a medical condition (diabetes for example?) and it might be a good idea to have him checked over by a doctor. That is a lot of pee if he isn't drinking that much and has gone before going to bed.

I agree pull ups aren't designed to hold that much ...so I would go back to diapers or as playfelt said goodnights.....also get him off your couch and on a nap mat with something underneath like a garbage bag or a vinyl table cloth (great idea play felt would have never thought of that) and absolutely talk to the parents and find out if they have noticed any thing different at home ...

Dollar stores sell the vinyl tablecloths and the normal 50x70" size can easily be used folded for extra strength.
What we have on the couch for our special needs daughter cause let's face it adult tena briefs suck big time but are cheaper than the diapers so prefer to do a tub of laundry every few days instead. From fabricland we bought a piece of thick vinyl that is sort of a damask floral pattern on one side and a bit fuzzy on the other to give you an idea what it looks like. It is meant to go on your good diningroom table underneath a cloth tablecloth to protect the wood from water stains. It is a bit expensive but works great. We even bought another piece of it to go on her bed. It is the width of a double bed mattress so you would only need to buy the width of bed you want for him to have.
Also find out if he is sleeping well at home. It could be that he is so exhausted he is going into a deep sleep.

Get some Good Nites disposable bed mats. Actually I think I would ask parents to provide them. My son has had nighttime accidents and these things soak everything up.

I have him on a nap mat today on the floor. I used a diaper with a pull up over top today. And he peed twice before I put him down. So hopefully. When I talked to mom last week she said he soaks his diapers at night too. If he soaks his diaper again today I will suggest to mom that maybe a doctor visit is in order. I have had him in my care for 1.5 years and this is something new with him.

How is he for sleeping as in does he seem overly tired or lethargic. I did have a child diagnosed with diabetes around this age and the symptoms were the number of accidents suddenly increased and she was needing more and more sleep. Mom had taken her to the doctor and she was being treated for a possible bladder infection but mom was called to rush the child to the hospital when the test results came back as her ketone levels were off the charts. She ended up spending 3 weeks in hospital before we cold even begin to work on a new diet plan for her.

Update: He is still peeing at nap time, I have him coming to me in a pull up now, last Thursday he woke up from his nap dry. I told him to use the bathroom, He said he didn't need to and 20 minutes late started crying and peed all over himself and my kitchen chai. His mom took him in to see about a bladder infection. Nothing was wrong and the doc just said to keep reminding him to go. Which I do, but he says no. Friday his mom sent him in a pull up with undies underneath. He kept saying no to going to the bathroom. When i made him go before lunch, his undies were soaked. He didn't even say anything to me. Sigh. I just started a new post about the other things going on with him. Not sure how to handle this.
