I would only take one present that is from both of your kids. I also spend less than $20 on presents for kids that aren't family.
Personally, I would just buy 1 gift from both of your children, but maybe spend a little bit more. Keep an eye on clearance/sales ect.
I usually have a budget of $20 for gifts for birthdays my daughter is invited to. Because you have 2 kids going though I would spend $30 on 1 gift from the both of them.
Do you have a target near you? I find they have clearance priced toys all the time. I have found some great deals there! I stock up on toys and clothes for kids all year round.
I would probably do two small gifts in case they set it up where each child is holding their gift and handing it to the child or put something fancy on the card for one to carry and just a name tag on the actual gift. I would spend no more than $25 on both gifts. Realizing that both will get the take home bags, eat the food, play the games - sort of the way we treat siblings as in no sibling discount. But the total spent is not really more than if just one was going but I wouldn't skimp if that makes sense.
Yes, I would have both your kids bring a gift each and I would spend $30 on both gifts.
I was planning on them each bringing something and I bought it last night. My husband just thought it was "very generous" for a kids b-day. Each gift totals $20 so $40 total.
Nothing wrong with what you did. It wasn't "very generous". It is as if each child was invited to a separate party. The parent putting on the party still has to supply enough food/cake/goodie bags for both of your children.
