I have a 2 year old here and she's had 3 nose bleeds so far today...not sure what to do. She's not in discomfort, but she is getting messy! I am able to get them to stop fairly quickly, but soon after another will start up. Should I call her parents? I would hate for them to come and get her and then she doesn't have another nose bleed today. But I'm wondering how nap is going to be....don't really want her to bleed during nap time and have blood all over her and my play pen! WWYD?
Put Vaseline in both nostrils, it will moisten the nose and keep in moist and the nose bleeds should go away.
I had terrible nose bleeds growing up. This was the only thing that worked wonders!

I would call the parents and let them know at least. Up to you if you call to pick up as only you can decide if it's getting too much to deal with. Three is quite a lot.
My own son used to get horrible nose bleeds when he was younger. They could literally pour for 15-20 mins and for no reason in terms of not banging his nose. He's grown out of them now thankfully but they lasted most of his Elementary school years and seemed to be triggered by emotions. He is quite a sensitive child so any conflict amongst his peers, any time he was made centre of attention which he's not comfortable with (school awards and being called up in assembly), he'd get stressed out and the nose bleeds would begin.
Saline drops for the nose help. My son used to get them often too.
If it were happening in my dayhome, I would call the parents just to let them know. I would suggest the nose drops, if you have them I would offer to use them to see if it helps. Also let them know your concern for nap time. They may arrange an early pick up. Also they may wish to look into it further.

The drops are ok as well but the problem is that the blood vessels are too close to the skin in the nose. When a child is excited, stressed, playing hard or if the air is dry the blood vessels enlarge and the skin inside the nose cracks. It can cause intense nose bleeds or small ones. With the drops it temporarily moistens the skin in the nose. With Vaseline it provides a constant moisture as well as a thin barrier against dry air.
My nose bleeds were so bad as a child. I had my nose cauterized multiple times and the next stage was surgery if they didn't stop. The specialist suggested Vaseline daily and it worked!! So every night before I went to bed I put Vaseline in both nostrils. I did this for years and never had a nose bleed again.
I would likely just tell the parent at the end of the day that the child had minor nose bleeds during the day and what you did (nose drops/Vaseline etc). If the nose bleed is bad though I would call mom to pick up.

I think I would call parents . First of all putting anything in a child's nose wouldn't happen here !! Especially for nap !!
I would freak all nap time ! I'm not saying it doesn't work !! All I'm saying is that would be a parents decision here ! And if she had more than one nosebleed I would be insisting she was picked up and examined by a physician . Two yr olds are famous for sticking things up their nose !!
( 6 hrs in emergency with my 2 yr old and bread shoved up there!!)
Thanks everyone! I ended up giving the Mom a text to let her know what was up. We decided to see how the rest of the day went....if another one started, they would come and get her. Thankfully there were no more nose bleeds!
I had this problem as a child as well, and yes Vaseline works very well. My nosebleeds were always present when I was suffering hay fever, (I had terrible seasonal allergies as a child).Quote:
