Sick Kids
I admit I am always torn when it comes to sending kids home. Or not torn but I guess it's a feeling of guilt. Lol.
What do you deem as sick enough to send home or to have the parents keep them home the next day? As the weather gets colder, cold season has begun and I currently have a little guy (2 yrs) that is sick. Super runny nose, coughing on everyone and everything, not napping well and just generally crabby. I can handle the runny noses but my concern lies with the coughing on everyone and everything all day. I fear the others getting sick more than they would normally and cringe every time he coughs on another child as they play close together. Yet he's not super sick (still participating and playing) so I'm feeling that torn/guilty feeling.
Would you ask mom and dad to keep him home tomorrow?

If we sent kids home for colds we would never be full. If the child is a complete mess and is preventing you from caring for the others then send him home but all you can do for colds is teach them to cough in their sleeves and disinfect frequently for colds.

I agree. I'd never have a full house in the winter if I sent home for runny noses and coughing lol.
Things that I send home for are....vomiting, more than 3 dirrehea and fever. If a child doesn't have these symptoms but is "off", I will text the parent and let them know. Than it's up to them to decide if they wanna pick up early or not.
I have a fairly detailed sick policy that outlines what to do and how long to stay home for if their child comes down with illnesses such as bronchitis, ear infections, sinus infections etc.
I feel guilty sending them home too so I understand where you're coming from!! However, the parents know and understand that my main concern is the whole group.
