I am also a cold-turkey integrater. If a parent needs to ease the child in, which I understand, then I will do a couple hours to start, then a half day, then 3 days of full days, and so on. But from day one, mom/dad don't come in any farther than the front entry. I would not feel comfortable being "on display". They will see how I interact with the kids at drop off and pick up.
In many cases, it's not the child with the greatest issue, it's the parents!
so we had our first day yesterday and it went amazingly well :) no tears, nothing...it was harder on mom than anything...i did allow her to stop in at lunch time but made it clear this was a one time only thing...she was very concerned that he wouldnt eat for me...she was shocked when she walked in to him with a full mouth of food and a big smile...thanks for all the advice, i think this little guy is gonna be a keeper
You are lucky the little one didn't think Mom was there to take him home and get all upset when she left again. I think that would be a good thing to tell her for a problem that could arise to ask her not to pop in anymore. It's confusing for the child. I'm glad you had a good first day.
I completely agree Momof4- its not something i normally allow. I have never had a parent so anxious before so i think thats partially why i relented. I did make it clear it wasnt going to happen again. I think he will adjust just fine here, it might take mom a little longer tho lol....Quote:
