Many people who are putting out the requests for daycare are sitting down and sending an email to everyone they can find that even remotely meets their needs. They are short and quick and merely meant to make contact and not go into detail. They are looking for those that actually take the time to respond, those that still have spaces since ads can be old and often are left to expire rather than removed. I answer all emails but give only minimal info as well with the chance for them to email or call with more details and leave it up to them to do so.
It does seem insulting that a person can't take the time to send a nice polite email, but some people are much better on the phone. If I get a seemingly curt email I always try to call the people. If I get a really great email then I respond by email. That way I find out right away exactly the kind of person I'm dealing with and whether they are worth the time and trouble.
