We are seeing a few of them in our daycare centre now. Parents never take them off. I'm not even sure if there is a clasp or anything.
The beads are sewn on the necklace individually, and they are not big enough to be a choking hazard (none of the ones I've seen anyway). Also, there is not enough space to get them tangled or double looped or hung onto something in a crib.
I've never had a kid come to me with one on, but if someone did, I wouldn't take it off for nap unless mom and dad asked me to do so.
My 10mos old has one and has been wearing it since she was 6mos old. Her parents never take it off and neither do I.
(Poor thing though still doens't have a single tooth)
I just had this conversation with a dcMom today. It's her baby's second day here and I mentioned that I'm uncomfortable with children sleeping with anything around their neck. She showed me how you pull the connecting beads apart and it just takes a firm pull and she's fine if I remove it from her baby but she said he hasn't had it off in about 6 months except to bathe.
But if they're sewn together individually, what if they break off 2 or 3 beads in a group? Then it is a potential chocking hazard, imo. I just really don't want to go there at all with them and be responsible if anything were to happen to either the necklace or the child.
