Strange phone call

A friend of my husbands wife is also a care provider and she had a lady call her today and question her about her daycare and the number of children she provides for and then told her that she shouldn't go over her numbers because it is illegal and she would report her.
Apparently the conversation went on as this provider was trying to get more info from this lady mainly where she got the number and why she was calling her if not for care. She is trolling the web looking for home daycares and "checking up on them" if any of you do get this call please be prepared she is calling from a 519 number.

Oh dear, that's terrible! Sorry your friend had to go through that harrassment Robyn, hope she doesn't call you, but if she does maybe you can do some kind of call tracing and report her to the police?

People need to mind their own business. I WISH she would call me. It would be my entertainment for the day. I could have a great time with her.:laugh:

This is bound to happen. There are people out there that think it's their job to save the world.

With the growing numbers of home daycare issues in the media every one is going to be on high alert. Even this morning I saw that the family that lost the 2 year old to the daycare in Vaughn is suing for 3.5 million. It's still fresh on every ones mind.

Unfortunately A&B is correct. Our profession is being looked at thru a microscope and everyone is on "high alert" concerning private dayhomes and providers. Sad thing is, no one is looking at the bigger picture. There are so many good and enriching home daycares and all anyone can focus on is the bad ones in the media. There are bad doctors, lawyers, tradespeople, auto mechanics, etc. Just as there are bad providers out there. It should be the number #1 responsibility of parents to MAKE SURE that their home daycare provider is following safety, guidelines, rules and making sure their children are safe. Why are the parents of the child that was found passed away, not being held responsible. How could they not know that there were more than 5 children in that home.If the provider had a couple of extra kids, than that's easy to miss, but 35 kids? really? My daycare parents not only know all the other daycare children but the parents as well from dropping off and picking up.

Why is no one questioning the parents. Yet they are suing for 3.5million. In my opinion (and I might get flamed for this) they are not completely blameless You cannot afford to be ignorant when your child(s) lives are at stake!

I agree - the parents are ultimately responsible for who they chose to watch their child. With the Internet (which is also available for free at public libraries) there are endless resources about what to look for in a daycare and lists of questions to ask your potential provider.
I find that is the key piece that the media leaves out of all of these reports.

The issue I see with the Vaughn case is that the parents believed it was an actual daycare centre run out of the home with falsified license documents etc. to show parents. They did receive a weekend tour of the facility. The "centre" operated a shuttle bus and picked kids up at their home, cared for them all day and then drove them home at night so parents never went to the daycare daily meaning that only a handful of parents actually showed up at the daycare door daily. The price was right and well all sounded legitimate. Yes the parents are at fault for being too trusting.

For sure this will be the last straw and the province will have to bow to pressure to "do something" about home daycare. As to what well only time will tell but even more important we get our voices heard and be part of the process. At the same time I just want to hide my daycare hoping to be one of the last ones found and made to conform to the new rules because I have a feeling we aren't going to like them all but I have been doing this too long and nearing retirement to start jumping through hoops to meet what could turn out to be unnecessary restrictions to what we can do and how to provide the care.

Unfortunately, that area code goes all the way to Windsor!

The whole phone number was searched and this person is selling a vehicle on Kijiji and has her location as Brampton. Which to me makes the whole situation even weirder.
