I hate it when parents.......

- continually send their child in clothes that are too big. I have a 9 month old whose pants are so big that she crawls out of them. I've also been asking for some robeez slippers so I dont have to put her sock back on 50 times a day.

- send brand new clothes. I will get dcg on the change table and ready to put clean clothes on only to find the extra set of clothes are new and have all the friggin tags on them. Off the change table, into the kitchen for scissors, back to playroom and start again:mad:

ha ha! dont you hate that? as far as the socks go, if they pull off too much in the day and parents won't bring longer socks, or slippers? let them go without, I highly doubt the childs feet will get too cold inside your home? especially at pick up I would have the socks off, and inform the parent they wont keep them on and you really do need slippers. I absolutely hate the clothes that dont fit kind of parents, or the parents that send their kids inapropriately dressed for the season, no boots in winter or too warm in the summer.....I find myself just sucking up and being the parent half the time. I have spare clothes I allow the kids to "borrow" during their time here, ( i can't stand watching them struggle in inapropriate clothes because the parents arent smart enough) then i wait until the parents arrive to strip the child of MY (proper) clothes and put on the provided ones, and say to the parent while changing their child...."little ---- could hardly walk in his pants today bcause they were to long" or "the babies feet are so chilly during the day because I can;t manage to keep up with her sock shedding fetish" COME ON PEOPLE< GIVE US PROVIDERS A BONE! :)

I hate it when parents send babies in tight jeans and they can hardly bend their legs! Not only does it limit their walking and crawling, but it is hard to hold them on your hip when the legs won't bend!

Sunnydays agree .... not to mention the struggle to get them on and off for diaper changes since they have to come totally off since the child can't move enough to get diaper in and out properly if pooped. On a positive note at least most jeans now have snaps and not buttons and button holes.

or PRETEND they forgot it was payday! :unsure: "oops I'm so sorry I forgot to pay you this week, just like last week and the week before that!":rolleyes:

or how about when you ask to please bring your potty training child in easy on off pants to help the child in training, and they bring them in over alls or the famous "too tight jeans"?

ooooh! I got another one! ha ha .....how about when the parents pull the infant out of bed and drop off with the bottle (cold) and say, oh she hasn't had her am bottle yet. then turns and runs before the kid explodes with hunger frustration. :crying::cursing: I the mean time, you are attempting to keep all other kids happy and pack lunches for your own get them fed and off to school.!!!!! what do some people think? "hmmm, what can I do to totally screw up her day first thing?"

arrive right at closing and then quiz their child on their day...um do that in the car please or they ask an in depth question about their childs developmental skills ......again um do you not observe him at home?

...Spend 15 min getting "little Johnny" or Little Suzy" ready at the entrance way at pick up time, trying to coax their screaming, twisting little bundles of joy out the door. Bribing, threatening, trying to reason with them. Had one DCD actually try to converse how DCB's outburst are making him feel. :blink: Really?? Take little DCB by the hand, say goodnight and walk out my door. Leave the theatrics for your house. Thank you.

I have literally been putting my shoes and coat on and grabbed my purse before when a Mom was all chatty chatty after closing, felt like saying, listen if you want to have social hour thats fine but come before I close. When I am off the clock, I am off the clock. for 12+ hours a day I am daycare lady, for the rest, you better watch out, I yell at my kids and even say some swear words. :) ha ha

Oh how I do not miss having to deal with most of these things back in my centre days ~ so going to give my clients an extra big thanks tonight for being awesome!

The clothing issue ~ sometimes that is tough one cause they size things by 'age' so parents assume that something 2 years should fit their 2 year old but well some 2 year olds are the 'size' of a 3 year old and some a 1 year old ... it is like the phrase one size fits 'most' verses ALL ;)

I have a little dude in care whose petite and always had been if they dressed him in what 'fit' in the waist he would be wearing 'shorts' all the time for the leg length so dude has to have his waste band 'folded over' to help his pants stay up had another little dude with the opposite issue to get his clothes to fit his waste and hips he had to wear a size where they were 4 inches to long cause he is built like a little football player short and solid.

LOL kidlove. So true. I've done the same thing and they still don't get it! My husband has even said he'll start the car and they still chat away.

Oh - I loved reading this one.....so true - all of these. I have a little girl that I'm potty training now and her parents sent her in (wait for it) a dress with four million itty bitty buttons up the back and tights and a onesie. Seriously ? :blink: I pretty much stripped that child down two seconds after Mum left the house. Who doesn't know that seconds count when you're working with a two year old who's "gotta go!" LOL My other pet peeve, is parents who either expect us to potty train their children. I am perfectly willing to do a lot of the work but this is going to be a joint effort folks. :rolleyes:i.e. the child is dry here all day, but at home she is put in diapers - all evening, at bedtime just because it's easier than having to take a little one to the bathroom every hour or so, or pay attention to their fluid intake when bedtime is coming up. Other peeves include parents who try to dictate whether or not nap time is going to happen, and parents who have what I call "Special Snowflake Syndrome" - the ones who tell you that their child couldn't possibly sleep in a full sized playpen - they need a crib/bed of their own; their child couldn't possibly share a room with other children for naptime - they need their own room. Sorry ! I've never yet had a little one not sleep at naptime, and no child yet has needed a room of their own. Keep the comments coming ladies - this thread is a hoot ! :wave:

Let me tell you a little story that cured one of my daycare Dads. He drops off and picks up his son daily. The little boy is really skinny and I had problems with him walking right out of his pants for months. I found a pink pair of tights that had been left here years ago by a family and I put them on the little boy. The next morning he had a nice belt holding his pants up and he still wears that belt on his pants every day. Problem solved.

I hate onesies and leave them open after the pre-nap diaper change until the after nap diaper change. Some day I'm going to regret that because a poopy diaper will probably pop off, but why do parents buy cutie clothes with tons of buttons and snaps when they know we have to dress 5 children or more?

Oooh - I had one last pet peeve - I remembered it while offering an opinion to another caregiver today: I really hate it when parents split hairs over your daily rates. You know the ones who want a reduced rate because their child is "only" going to be in your care from 9 to 3. Um - I still will be feeding your child snacks and meals, they are still going to participate in any crafts that we may be doing, and whether or not your child is a full time client or a part time one my daycare insurance rates are the same. :laugh:

I hate hypocrites... I have perhaps one perfect set of parents, another one that is medium and the others... just there to bend my rules (that doesnt work of course). Of course, I give them a hard time about it and it stresses me out to be so stressed out about it. A year in this business now, lets see how the next year will go ... :glare:

I have two little ones whose parents dress them like we are in the arctic. I'm talking long-johns and then those awesome FLEECE LINED jeans. then five tops. I take half the clothes off them and the little ones look at me like its a whole new world because they can actually move three feet without getting over heated

anyone ever had the "all too lazy" parent? I have a Dad that drops off 30 minutes before his shift and has the nerve yesterday to pick up 2 hours after his shift was over! I felt like asking where he worked today? normally it's a 10 minute drive from work to here, must have worked in a different town? and then when he picks up late, ALWAYS has a great excuse, had an appt, got out late, traffic heavy, low visibility, had to stop for groceries, got caught up! the list goes on......I don't give a $^&%! what the excuse is, I have been waiting for two hours with your 20 questions 3 year old and screaming infant and I was ready to be done 2 hours ago! :cursing:

Or how about the parent that tries to "Re-negotiate" their contract. Had my newish DCM call yesterday to see if she could pick up her son 15 min later since she dropped him off 15 later in the morning. :blink: Then she asks me again this morning at drop off!! Then tells me "well the other daycares allow this" Really?? Seriously lady....you have contracted hours. use them wisely or you will see the door.:yes:

oh I've had the same comment from parents in the past...."oh my other daycares let me do this"...my question to them is..."why aren't you there any more?".....that shuts them up! ;)

31/2 yr old dcb still not toilet trained. I've asked for pull ups many times and they smile and nod. Today they said he was complaining his diapers were too tight so their plan was for him to out grow his diapers (and that he would be so uncomfortable) then he would be willing to use the potty. They actually think they have struck gold with this idea.:mad:

Arh! yeah It drives me nuts when they say: the other daycare allowed my daughter to bring toys or allowed her to chew gum and my personal favourite allowed her to watch tv while she eats!

Yeah, the fleece lined jeans are a pet-peeve of mine too because it even decreases more the mobility...even worse than just tight jeans...bulky fleece lined ones! Although I have to admit, I would rather they dress them for the Arctic than those that dress the kids like it is the middle of summer when it is -20 outside. I can take layers off, but I can't so much if there is only one layer and the child is cold :(

biggest pet peeve lately is playing dumb about my policies. "oh, we have to pay even if she doesnt come?" "oh, we still have to pay when we are away?" "oh, you have set hours?" arrgh! this lady is driving me nuts. yesterday i just answered one word. yes. hopefully she got the message to go home and re read the contract she supposedly already read and signed!

or you can place a copy of your policies in the kids bag at pickup, "there's a little reading material in daughters bag...I think you might find it useful" wink wink ;)

i have had this family for over 4 years now, and I still get an occasional call when the sched got changed around, "how much do we owe you?" just because the kid came a dif ammount of days doesnt mean you can't calculate daily charge by that number of days. I always smart a$$! comment like.."well, he was here four days this week and I charge 30$ perday so...4 X 30 = 120" duh!!!! maybe I should say 150$ and see if they really know the answer, I'm sure they would catch it and say, no shouldn't it be 120? but if I went the other way, theyd probly shut up and pay the lower number. ;) ha ha

I have had a family member I do care for ask me (regarding my policies) "well, does that count for us too?" uh yah! :huh:

Haha. I could relate to EVERY post here. I really do hate when people send their kids in too tight clothing, especially when they can't walk yet. Stretchy pants, people! I also hate when parents send their kids in fancy clothes and "tsk tsk" you when they get dirty. I specifically say in my contract that we get dirty, and to dress children in play clothes.
