I want to run away

I want to run away today. I've been feeling bored lately. I just had a 4 day weekend, but feel like I need a day off. I feel like days off just mean different kids, but still doing the same thing. When my work day is over, I just switch over to my own kids, who are just as demanding, if not more. Cooking, cleaning. Everything that I know every one of us is doing, and I have no right to complain, but I am. I need a change. I feel like I"m in prison. I'm sure in a few days I'll be over it and back to normal, but for today....I want to go away. I want an adventure. See something different. Talk to someone different....

I feel the same way many days so you are not alone. I dont have any young kids of my own anymore so my evenings are my own but i feel so drained at the end of the day i have no energy to do anything. Daycare can be a lonely job. Is there something that you love to do that you can do at naptime? I love to craft and sew so I try to have somethig ready to do at naptime to relieve nsome stress. Learn to knit, or start a cross stitch (its easy) or grab a tea and read and leave the dishes and tidying until later. I find th most important thing is that i insist my hubby takes on some of the household chores. I dont have anyone to talk to durig the day either, all my friends work outside the home. hope your day gets better

Arghhh I wanna run away today too!!!! It's days like today that I just don't think that I'm cut out for this job as my own kids are very demanding. Same thing, dck leave and I put my mom hat on and continue with the crying, diapers, demands etc. just so tired of the same thing every bloody day and no adult interaction until my hubby gets home around dinner time. This is by far the toughest job I have ever had (and I used to work in the finance industry).

Ah that's terrible:( I have nothing constructive to say, other than I know how you feel. It's hard doing the same thing, day in day out without any change. I know my hubby doesn't really get it...it's hard. My own two kids have been driving me up the walls lately too, so yeah I NEVER get a break....hopefully things will cheer up with summer around the corner. Feel better soon :o

Yes, we need the warm weather to get the hell out of our houses! I have been going through the same thing lately. Just a strong feeling of dissatisfaction. I think it is worse when we come off a long weekend and start to unwind though it isn't long enough to completely do so and then we are back to work.
We juggle everyday and when we drop a ball we feel bad and blame ourselves. Sometimes when my hubby asks me to make a decision he could easily make on his own I get angry. I make so many decisions during the day I would like for him to make one himself regarding our homelife. It is hard being the go to person all the time.
I think this is why so many of us go to this forum. We can vent to others who are doing and sometimes feeling the same way. All I can think of as advice is that we must take time to do something for ourselves. Even if it is for a few minutes at a time and to also tell our family when we need help. If we don't speak up when we feel down we will just continue to feel bad.
It sounds cheesy, but sometimes I think of worse situations like sitting in traffic trying to get home or dealing with the office politics I used to hate, or dealing with that crabby boss and then I start to put things into perspective.
Just remember to take care of yourself, breath and get hubby to make dinner once in a while. Hope you feel better hon.:glomp:

Aw gcj, I'm sorry that you're feeling stifled. Do you have a hobby? Or friends who would like to go out for dinner or a movie so you can have a night out? It's important to turn daycare OFF and even to get a break from your own family once in a while. What about a nice date night with your spouse this weekend?

I just returned from a vacation and it's really important to me to schedule my vacations spread out through the year so that I have one to look forward to and then I return refreshed and ready for the months ahead. I know my limits and that I have to take care of myself in order to be at the top of my game with these little munchkins all around me.

I hope you can sit down and make a plan to make sure you stay fresh and rested too.

I have been feeling the same.... I have found some great deals online for vaga and Mexico; maybe you need a small trip to Vegas for 3 or 4 days. I am going in two weeks it cost $500 for a flight and room(only 3 star) for my husband and myself, we only pay for the food and shows we want to see and shopping. My sister went and seen a few shows free. Some real estate agent was giving away tickets to people how looked at property. They never intended on buying but went for a viewing told the guy sorry not what we are looking for and went to the show.

I sooooo get what you are saying. I've had so many ups and downs since I started this career. My husband works 12 hours a day 7 days a week so he's not much help. Sometimes I dream of going back to my old job just to wear nice clothes and see people and be able to have a 15 minutes break JUST FOR ME ! But what helps me get over it is I remind myself that I had lows in my other job as well and focus on what is good in the home daycare life. Kick back, take it easy try to go outside with the kids. For me fresh air helps a lot. Call up a friend to go for dinner or movie or just get out of the house any excuse is good.

It's the weather. I need to get outside twice a day... go on walks again... explore spring. I'm feeling it too.

I with you ladies. So sick of that weather, and the snow (thats finally melting away though). It was a freakin tough winter for my first year with the daycare. I was happy to work from home on the storm days. But now, I need to go out to lol

Lets hang in there, tomorrow is starting to be nicer weather in my area anyways... well they announce rain but I rather have hot weather and rain then cold and snow :D

Bleh! i'm feeling it too today.
It's been really nice for the past week or so... and today its colder, gray and windy...i think the kiddos feel sick and tired of this weather to because they are acting up today!
i just feel like having a movie day and cuddle with a comfy blanket!

I have a 2 y.o. girl that since last week, when I say Ok its time to get dressed and go outside... she starts crying :\ I wonder if its related to the bad weather lolll She must be a summer girl hahaha

Wow this is timely. I am feeling exactly the same way. I have been in daycare for many years but this year has been one of the worst. Must be the weather. I am divorced and my children are grown. So the only adult conversation I get most days is with the parents, which is usually all about their kids. It sure helps to vent and have people that really understand. I will be trying a few of these suggestions. I hope things improve for you soon, if you still want to runaway well count me in!

SEASONAL DEPRESSION......its been a long winter ladies we are all in need of some vitamin d I also have been feeling the same.....I love what I do but sometimes its all a little overwhelming being stuck inside and its being the end of winter we are all probably running out of things to do.
Hope everyone is able to get outside soon....next week here in ontario temps are double didgets ahhhhh SUNSHINE :)

You are not alone, as evidenced by all the posts prior to mine! I agree with everyone. We need some warmth and sunshine. Just remember that in any job, there are days when you wish you were doing something else. That's normal for any career. That's usually a good time to treat yourself to something to cheer yourself up.

I am feeling the same way! I just opened in January and seriously have been outside with the kiddies only a handful of times. It's just SO cold! Even today the sun was shining but it was -13 with wind chill and I just can't bring myself to pack 3 babies and 2 toddlers up to stand outside for 10 minutes just to say we got outside! I have said to my husband that I never get seasonal depression but I think I now know what it feels like because these last few months have been rough!! Brighter days ahead ladies!!

YES...I'm going batty as well. This has been a drawn out long winter in Southern Ontario. :mad:

We got outside today for 45min and it was wonderful. The sunshine helps tremendously. I'm longing for the days where we spent pretty much all day outdoors learning about nature, catching bugs, splashing in the water. In for potty breaks, and naptime. We even ate our lunch and snacks outdoors.

Hurry up Spring and Summer :D

Yeah, this job is tough. As much as I hate the school drop off and pick up, one of the benefits is I get to chat with other adults and it makes us go outside. We go outside everyday (for the pick up) then just stay out for an hour to 2 hours 2 x's a day. It really lifts my spirits and makes the day go so much faster. Sometimes I am freezing but I know it makes my day better as the kids are better behaved and sleep well and frankly I am better too. It was why I used to walk my puppy (8 yrs a go) for 2-3 hours a day, it made her happy and she was kept busy so she didn't destroy anything. Did I just compare my dog to dcks? heh heh

Omg I was a flight attendant for over 10 years and I have done daycare 2 1/2 years now and I have cabin fever soooooooooooooi bad right now. I feel like I could peel the paint if the walls. Thank God I have great kids and amazing parents.

This weather is killing me, we had about 2 inches of snow this morning.

I'm getting burn out too and when I do have free time all can think about is cleaning and organizing my home. Certain areas are suffering because I just can't find the time. :(

Yep...feeling it here too :( I just feel BLAH! I agree with the others...I need summer to hurry up and come so I can get out more and have adult interaction more. Last winter I was driving to outings with the kids, but this year I can't because I am now full and have too many kids to fit inmy van (may have to start driving again once my daughter goes to school as the lack of adult conversation is a bit tough long term).

This is the part that is stressing me out. Everytime I try to sort something or move stuff around it seems like all I do is make more mess. Piles of stuff everwhere, can't find half the daycare stuff I know I have and made the mistake of starting into some boxes of stored clothes looking for what will fit my daughter this summer that I have saved from older siblings so one sealed box from a basement shelf became two boxes of one that will fit and one that won't that I will need to do something with but now both boxes are in my way since of course they don't both fit on the shelf in the basement this way - but that is ok I found another box to put in the space - so I made a mess of the upstairs hallway but made a 2x2 foot clear space on the floor in the basement storage area - just doesn't pass as progress.

I have worked in child care for 15 years and have had my dayhome open for just under a year. I love my kids and I think that the job we do is SO important but I have these feelings of wanting to run away and give up some days too. Working with kids all day is hard, but doing it in isolation at home is even harder. It's something I think you have to do yourself to understand. My hubby doesn't really get it but he tries and he helps out a lot when he gets home so I'm lucky.

Keep with it and remember that what you do with the little people in your care really does matter, both to them and to their families. You are very important! Even on the days you don't feel that way ;)

Wow...I was just talking to my husband about how it's like this job never gives you a break, then I check this forum and it seems I am not alone!! I also have 2 young girls of my own and it's true ~ your own kids are sooo much more demanding than the daycare kids! Mine have also been driving me nutso lately! It's a tough job us ladies do, but I wouldn't go back to working in a cubicle, that's for sure!

Being outside is always a huge help for me. Even just going for a walk clears my mind a lot! Pinterest!!!! Is a huge help for ideas on projects. Obsessed with that site.
