+4 Childcare provider: Susan

I obtained services from this family / home daycare, dayhome and I find that:

"Susan has been our daughter's home-care provider since she was 13 months old, and she is now just over 4. We have been more than pleased with the quality of care that she has received there. Susan has provided her with a wonderful, caring, learning-oriented experience.

Each year, starting in January, the children work their way through the alphabet letter by letter, which contributes to their weekly theme. (F for family - we have wonderful picture books and posters from each year! P for planets - the solar system creations are proudly hung in our home!) Mixed in with the letter and number learning, the children are out and about in the community regularly. As she is located downtown, most weeks the children attend some form of programming at the Central Library. In the summer, they often take excursions (on the city bus) to local splash pads and parks. Piccadilly Park is close by, and they go there year-round. Even better, in order to off-set the small group experience, Susan will coordinate with other local home-care providers and make sure they have meet-ups. The children then get a chance to play in a larger group, which is excellent practice.

Susan also provides good food - and texts all families each day with the menu (and a daily picture!). We get emails (one or two per week), also with pictures, that review all of what happened. These are also wonderful keepsakes, and we save them for our daughter to review when she is older. Although Susan generally cooks for the children, there are occasional special days where their adventures allow them a chance to eat out - which my family appreciates, as we like knowing our daughter has a chance to practice her skills in other settings, like a restaurant.

I will say that Susan has been a trustworthy and fair caregiver. Some children who enter the setting will have issues they need to work through - like being aggressive. She does not dismiss other families out of hand, but works with them. If some situations have been intolerable, she will address them. Despite the loss to her income, she has occasionally (rarely) dismissed a family who put others at risk. I see this as a very clear testament to her care for my child, and children in general.

Finally, I would like to speak of the relationships that my child has built with the others who have attended with her. We continue to maintain contact with the past families, two older children who have gone on to school, and even current families (outside of in-care time, for example for playdates). Susan chooses her clients with care, which shows. We think of all of the attendees as our "daycare family" and treat them - and Susan - as such.

If you are looking for care for your child/children, Susan has our family's highest recommendation. After three-plus years, we remain just as pleased with our decision. From the day we started - us and our child, she and us crying at the separation - Susan has taken great care of us all. You will not be disappointed. Do not let her modest home fool you; the quality of this care-setting is immeasurable. We will be sad to leave."

Provider's reply:

"It is a sincere privilege to provide care for families who appreciate my hard work and dedication and to watch their little children grow from babies to hilarious, clever, intelligent small humans . To know I have a hand in molding their personalities, morals, and given them the seeds of knowledge to start the next chapter of their lives is an honour. Especially a family like Esther & Brad & Anna!"
