Uggg got a new one for this morning ~ we are removing our cheesy 70's cardboard ceiling squares from the basement and so this morning I go down to get some more done .... pulled down the ones over my playroom space and I found two LIVE electrical lighting mounts with the wires just dangling not capped or tied back even and a LIVE plug wrapped in 'duct tape' ... not electrical tape but duct tape with the fiber threads running through it .... it is amazing that we have not had an electrical fire in that ceiling

I am grateful that we found it and can address it for sure ~ but it wigs me out that for the past 5 years my playroom I thought was a safe and secure place for myself and the kids could have either caved in on us or erupted in fire in one of the many storms we have taken cover from down there

I want to find the dude who finished that basement initially and ask him 'did you not love your family? Cause that is the only reason I can think you would take such cheap and thoughtless short cuts in your renovation ~ you were hoping to do them in and claim 'opps'?
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

This may not be great news for you, but you should be VERY careful about the ceiling tiles in your basement as they can contain ASBESTOS!!! I would definitely not be removing them myself! Even into the 80's they were still using asbestos in those things. I found this out recently and I am now very careful about disturbing those things. You may want to get it checked before removing any more. I believe you can buy a testing kit and do it yourself for your piece of mind.
