    Hammock cradle

    Hi all,
Has anyone ever used one of these?

Here is the blurb from the website:

"Sleeping babies in hammocks is a very traditional and effective method of settling babies as baby feels cradled and lulled just as they did in the womb. Many post-natal maternity wards are now realizing the benefits of using hammocks for infant care.
This hammock is the very latest design incorporating a bed shape which gently supports the natural C-curve of baby's spine. Because the hammock is quite hard to get out of, most babies would be in it for at least 4-6 months before they could potentially wriggle out. Many other babies have enjoyed the hammock for months more."

    Any thoughts?
    TIA

I suppose that's the way they did it in biblical times and if you don't have any cash for a crib it might be a good idea but I'd prefer a nice bassinette for a newborn. I bet they charge a fortune for this and people who live out in the woods could rig one up out of a bedsheet. Ugh, I'm tired. You know, there is always somebody out there with a new idea becoming the latest millionaire.

It is VERY expensive to buy one of these hammocks. I was thinking of doing my own DIY version as I found instructions for one on a blog....
But I don't want to bother if they are not effective. My first had reflux and hardly slept so I'm looking for options for my second ahead of time in case we have the same issues.

I could see using something like this for daytime while you can supervise to give the baby the feeling of being in a sling without you actually having to hold them. But I would be very concerned about a child sleeping in one due to suffication issues. Certainly anything past the newborn stage ie some babies can roll onto their side by a couple months and that could have them trapped against the sides. We aren't even supposed to use bumper pads in a big crib anymore for that reason.

I feel the same way, it gave me goose bumps thinking of possible suffocation but would be great to use for naptime in the day in place of a swing. As long as there close.

I didn't even think of suffocation! I would just be TERRIFIED that the damn thing would fall down.
Seems kind of fad-like to me.

I have one that i used for my son during daytime the first 3 months... he needed that extra ''womb'' feeling that even a sling couldn't give him! as soon as he started moving a little bit when we was sleeping I took the thing down... I didn't want to take anychances!
I don't know if I will use if with my daughter. I would be afraid that the little one would see this as a swing and try to push her around...
