I love smoothies and can't wait to try these yummy recipes I will definitely let you all know when I do. Do any of you know how many calories are in these shakes? Any other recipes are always welcomed!

Teagansmom - I use the same protein powder as you. I like that it's low in calories too!

I tried to buy kefir at superstore yesterday, but there was only strawberry flavor so I opted out... maybe next time

Today we had another big dump of snow.... I was so sad when I looked out the window lol. But, I got the kids ready and did it anyway!

I am super tired today... I hope everyone else is doing well!!

My smoothie is a little high in calories but IMO the benefits out weight the calories (I track my calorie intake) I absolutely love the app "My Fitness Pal"

Here is a list of ingredients and the calories

    Yogurt 40 cal
    Flaxseed oil 40 cal
    Almond milk. 30 cal
    Fruit. 60 cal
    Cacao powder. 24 cal
    Maca powder. 20 cal
    Protein powder 100 cal
    Coconut oil. 120 cal
    Cinnamon. 3 cal

    Total. 437 calories

Wow that is a high but looks so yummy!

So I fell off the wagon all weekend! Although I was 'careful' not to over eat, I did AND I munched ! Lol It was my son's bday this weekend, with guest over both days, lunch, dinners and cake every time ! Gggrrrr I'm feeling it today.

Not going to kick myself too much as these things will happen but I just don't feel good as I did the last few weeks and I'm finding it difficult to get back into it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Keep sharing those yummy recipes and workout stories

I hurt my shoulder on Saturday...rotary cuff injury so not only does it restrict my exercising but also potentially could get worse if I'm not careful lifting my daycare crew. Today I am going to modify a lot of the exercises that are in my HIIT for example i do jumping jacks to get my heart rate up, instead I will substitute for jogging on the spot. Typically I get disheartened and quit at this point, but instead I am just going to try and modify. My purpose for exercise long term is to be strong, but initially I just want to form new habits of doing some kind of exercise everyday. At first it is just 15-20 minutes daily alternating HIIT with strength training on different areas of my body and I hope that over time I will enjoy it more and increase my activity and intensity levels.

I was sick with a really bad cold for a month and FINALLY was able to start exercising again. I was totally in cope mode, everyone including myself had a horrible cough and it was really sucky to stop exercising on my treadmill because I couldn't do anything without coughing (one of my dck even got pneumonia so bad she was hospitalized). But I was back on the treadmill last night for the first time and it was awesome. I have also started doing yoga again with the kids in the morning, YouTube has awesome kids yoga videos to follow.

But I also wanted to throw the advice out there that the Mediterranean style diet has been proven to be incredibly healthy and those that follow it in the long term have been shown to have little or no chronic illnesses in old age. It isn't necessarily a weight loss plan, but is a lifestyle choice that makes for a healthy heart and body. I am sure many of you heard about it on the news.

So how is everyone doing lately? I'm taking some positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle...quite literally. My phone has a built in pedometer and today was the first day I got the stroller loaded up and went for a walk with my crew. I got 6000 of my daily 10k steps in by 10am I would love to do this daily as I got a really good sweat on...eww I know lol, and really got some rapid breathing going on as I pushed the stroller up and down some hills so I think I got a half decent cardio session in. I am going to get a monitor to keep track of it. I'm knackered now but feel great to be honest.

From a nutritional perspective I signed up for loads of free classes at my local Goodness Me store. Last night was my first and I have two more this week and intend to go as frequently as possible. Last nights class was about Liver detoxification and the speaker was a local ND. I have an appointment next week to meet with a new ND but have decided to cancel and now have an appointment with this woman. For those of you familiar with my post history, I have mentioned that I suffer from endometriosis and also PTSD. I have a whole host of health issues which really stem from not taking care of myself and they really just do a great job of making each other that much worse. I am very optimistic that the ND can help me as she used a couple of examples last night on how supporting the liver can have such phenomenal results in treating hormone and women's health issues amongst so many other things. I spoke with her after and she has a lot of experience working with PCF and endo. I knew a lot of what she spoke about in terms of supplementation and healthy eating but learning what common ailments are clear indications of a toxic liver was absolutely fascinating. Some of the other classes I am attending are skincare-what's toxic and what's not; breast health; natural treatments for stress, depression and anxiety; anti-inflammatory eating and a heavy metal and toxin elimination class too. There are so many different classes almost daily at all locations and I highly recommend people within driving distance of a store look into these free classes. They are all presented by ND's, RHNP's and other healthcare professionals. I absolutely love this stuff and had considered going to school for nutrition but its one of those careers where earning a full time wage is something that most graduates don't make even after 5 years in the field and with kids and a mortgage its just something I learn about for general interest instead.

I haven't read all the other replies, but here's what I do (I run a home day care with my own toddler and three full-time kids).

After lunch time, the kids nap for usually one and a half to two hours. My daughter is phasing out of her nap (which works for me because I am trying to wean her from breastfeeding -- she'll be 3 in August), so I set her up on the couch with her favourite movie and a portable DVD player (I don't feel bad because she doesn't get much tv other than that, and my day care is very educational with a weekly theme and preschool learning activities).

I will take half an hour and do my workout. I do Pilates from Cassey Ho at www.blogilates.com. I am following her beginner workout calendar and it's about half an hour a day.

My day care closes at 5, and on Mondays my husband comes home from work at 3, so at 5 I do a half hour of cleaning and then make supper. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays my husband gets off work at 6. So I have an hour to clean and cook. If I can fit a half hour of cardio (I love Zumba, and have a Zumba XBOX Kinnect game that I love) I will do it then, or we will go for a big family walk with the dogs after supper.

I also try to do stretching with the kids once a day after nap time. We do some fun and simple stretches to wake our bodies up and make us feel good.

I follow the Mediterranean style diet too! Have you read The Mediterrasian Way? It's an amazing cookbook!

I've heard of a lot of people going vegan, and I myself tried that for a month, but I ended up being extremely tired (even with proper meal planning and supplementing). I am still serious abut animal welfare, so I don't eat eggs (they just kill the baby male chickens by throwing them in a meat grinder because they are useless to the egg industry -- even organic egg farms do this) and dairy is a once-a-week treat when my hubby makes homemade Calzones. We don't buy poultry or red meat (except when we can get locally raised, organic bison) and so we mainly eat fish and shellfish.

A lot of people are also hardcore paleo, I've even heard about the (in my mind) absurd "Inuit Diet". I've seen a lot of people go Paleo and just gain weight! And when you look at the two healthiest cultures -- the Mediterranians and the Asians -- they eat a LOT of carbs!

I think a vegan diet requires a lot of work to really make it a balanced diet, I don't think I could ever do it.

My brother did the paleo diet for about a year, he lost weight while he was doing it but for some reason he stopped and seems to have gained back everything he lost. But I can't say he did it very well, he considered a steak and an orange to be a complete meal! LOL

I really try to make my meals really balanced and full of "real" food, I used to follow the South Beach Diet religiously before I had kids but I find it hard now. I eat a small amount of dairy and have started using olive oil a lot, which comes from the Mediterranean style diet.
